The Pharmacist: Storyline
Directed by Jenner Furst, Julia Willoughby, and Nason, the true-crime documentary focus on the pharmacist Dan Schneider, living in St. Bernard Parish in Louisiana, New Orleans. The series starts with the devastating death of Dan Schneider’s 22-year-old son, Danny Jr. In the drug-related shooting in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward in April 1999, he lost his son and like other stories police investigate the case but doesn’t give a satisfying answer or reason to him.
Initially, he doesn’t find any lead, but a month later the ripple effects of his son’s addiction and tragic death would find him again when a troubling number of young, seemingly healthy people begin visiting his pharmacy with high dose prescriptions for OxyContin. Sensing a crisis long before the opioid epidemic had gained nationwide attention, he stakes a mission: Save the lives of other sons and daughters within his community.
