The DC Universe Animated Original Movies are a series of superhero animated films produced largely by Warner Bros. Animation based on DC Comics characters and stories. Typically, the films are standalone projects that are either adaptation of popular novels or original storylines. The DC Animated Movie Universe was a sub-series that ran from 2013 to 2021, containing many movies set in a single universe and heavily influenced by The New 52. Now, Dc’s launching one new movie, the premiere date for DC’s feature-length animated Injustice movie has been set for October 19, 2021. It will be available on Blu-ray and Digital.

The film is based on the same-named fighting video game series, which includes Injustice: Gods Among Us (2013) and Injustice 2 (2017). The series is set in an alternate universe where Joker fools Superman into killing Lois Lane, putting him down a dark road. It is developed by Mortal Kombat studio NetherRealm. The movie will be based on the original game, as well as the best-selling graphic novel Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One, which is based on the series. Justin Hartley, who is no stranger to the DC universe, stars as Superman in the Injustice film. Furthermore, Hartley is most known for his role as Green Arrow in the TV show Smallville. Anson Mount, who portrays Captain Christopher Pike in Star Trek: Discovery, will co-star as Batman alongside Hartley. Laura Bailey, Yuri Lowenthal, and Steven Universe’s Zach Callison round out the group.

The film is directed by Matt Peters, who also directed Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, and has a script by Ernie Altbacker, the writer of Batman: Hush. The Injustice 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack includes a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with HDR, a Blu-ray disc with the film in high-definition, and a digital copy of the film. The Blu-ray includes both a high-definition Blu-ray disc and a digital version of the film.
