What is Hanukkah?

Hanukkah or we can say the festival of light is celebrated for eight consecutive nightfalls. On this day Jewish people with their family and friends gather together and light a candle in the menorah- a beautiful multi-branch candelabra.

They celebrated this day as a dedication and holiday and believe that a small light can reduce the darkness or we can say a small effort for something can bring a large transformation in life.

Why it is special for Jewish people?

Hanukkah recalled as the victory of a group of Jewish soldiers in 164 BC over the Syrian Greeks.

On this day, in the second century BC, a small group of Jewish fighters liberated it from occupying foreign forces.

They lit a menorah in the temple of Jerusalem with the tiny supply of oil that they found in the temple. The oil is so little that the menorah can lit for a day only but it proves wrong.

The menorah with a small amount of oil can remain lit for almost eight days. It is just like a miracle.

Therefore, Jewish people with full dedication and prayers lit candles on the menorah on this day.

How do they celebrate this day?

They start with one candle and increase the lightning one by one, each night. They lit the candle with the chanting of some special prayers.

On this special day, the menorah they lit is kept it in a place where it can be visible from outside such as windows, doors, etc. It considered as God’s light that is spreading throughout the nation.

Lightning of menorah on streets, parks, and public landmarks has become a trend in the last few years in various countries in the world.
