What is the movie Chhatriwali about?
Chhatriwali is a 2022 Bollywood comedy drama. The movie stars Rakul Preet Singh in the lead role. She will be seen playing the role of a condom tester in Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar directed Chhatriwali. The movie follows rakul Preet Singh who although a chemistry graduate, is still unemployed. Moreover Desperate for a job she takes up the role of a condom tester. However, the job role according to the society is not suitable for women. Hence she has to hide it from everyone.
The movie with the help of humour sends an important message. A taboo of use of condoms. The actress said that the movie aims to ‘destigmatise’ the conversation of using precaution in an entertaining way.
Rakul Preet Singh talks about her upcoming movie
Chhatriwali finished its filing in December and is currently in its post-production phase. “In the film, I play a small-town girl, who happens to stumble upon this job and like anybody, looks down upon it but realises that this conversation is the need of the hour. The conversation around the use of protection must destigmatise. We have ads on protection, so why not a film? That was the thought,” Rakul Preet Singh.
She also said that she does not want to sound preachy through the film, but it is necessary to have this talk.“We are not preaching to anyone, it is a slice of life family film, without any scene where you might feel awkward. It is a dialogue that needs to be had and we are having it in a subtle, entertaining way. We are not trying to teach anyone a lesson or be preachy. we have this dialogue through the character’s journey,” she added.
Chhatriwali compared to Nushrat Bharuccha’s Janhit Mein Jaari
The release of the trailer of Janhit Mein Jaarihave got fans wondering if the two films are the same. Janhit Mein Jaari starring Nushrat Bharuccha also talks about the same topic. The social comedy-drama follows the unique story of a woman who takes up the job of a condom sales executive. Things get tough when she gets married and her in-laws find out what she does for a living.
When Rakul Preet Singh was asked about the two movies being the same, she said, “I don’t look at it like that. There are only seven kinds of stories and nine emotions in the school of filmmaking. How you do permutations and combinations is up to you.”
While further explaining her point she said “We have been watching the action for decades. It’s kicking, punching, hitting and so on, but in every film, it is treated differently. It ultimately boils down to whether the film is good or not.”
Rakul Preet Singh who starred in Ajay Devgn’s Runway 34 has a number of movies lined up. She will star in Ayushmann Khurrana’s comedy-drama ‘Doctor G’ and Indra Kumar’s ‘Thank God’ along with Sidharth Malhotra. She also has a movie lined up with Akshay Kumar in ‘Mission Cinderella‘
