What is Oppenheimer about?
Oppenheimer is an upcoming American biographical film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. It is originally based on the book ‘American Prometheus’ a biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer. The film follows the life of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his contribution to making the atomic bomb, during World War 2.
Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy has done many projects together. Although this is the first time where murphy is in a leading role. The actor told the Hollywood reporter that he has done “an awful lot of reading” on Oppenheimer’s life to get the role right. The actor also said that the casting process was very secretive. Moreover, sometimes they did not know who they were playing until they agreed.
No other actor can play Oppenheimer better than Cillian Murphy. Firstly the two share quite similar facial structures.
What is Robert Downey Jr’s role alongside Cillian Murphy?
Although it is not officially announced what role RDJ would be playing, it should be a new experience for the actor. Apart from his acting skills, RDJ’s role as Lewis Strauss, chairman of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, will serve as a strong force against Murphy.
Taking up this role has certain reasons. Firstly this would be a great choice for a comeback, considering RDJ’s Dolittle was criticized by many. Secondly, he’ll get to give a much darker, more imposing performance for his said role. This would not only add more life to the film but also fans would be able to see him in a new role.
More would be revealed once the teaser is out, or when we get an official statement. The movie is said to be released on July 21, 2023.
