The Beta Test Review: Movie Leaked Before Releasing in Theater

0

Jim Cummings and PJ McCabe’s The Beta Test weaves light Hollywood comedy and dread of Big Data into a fable of sensual temptation, as a strange one-night encounter threatens to destroy a young agent’s life. As the aforementioned agent, Cummings flexes the same muscles that made him a festival favorite in Thunder Road and its sequel, The Wolf of Snow Hollow: He portrays a well-known type while making the role unlike any we’ve seen before, exploring the various shades of combustible discomfort and desperation.

When Jim Carrey made the transition from rubber-faced anarchy to serious acting in the late 1990s, the detour didn’t last long, but he provides three outstanding performances. Furthermore, one of which was that Carrey seems to be expressing more of himself than ever before in those parts. He didn’t abandon his snappish, sardonic, through-a-glass-snarkily humorous mood; instead, he demonstrated the sorrow and romantic intensity on the opposite side.

Imagine, for a moment, that you were seeing a Jim Carrey who had taken his private obsessional tendencies one step further. Mprepver, who was still hilarious at times, but whose motormouth personality was the sound of an average man slowly and seriously collapsing. And, more importantly, this movie actually leaked via a pirated website?

Review Of The Beta Test

The Beta Test is a horror-thriller film from the United States and releases in 2021. The film begins with an immediately engrossing sequence of suspense and terrible violence, a scenario that would fit right in with any regular big-budget thriller. While not a comprehensive foreshadowing of what is to come later in the film, it serves well to establish the main premise of The Beta Test. It introduces viewers to Jordan’s strange purple envelope-clad invitation to an anonymous sexual rendezvous with an unnamed admirer, which he will shortly receive. Jordan, of course, accepts the offer, eventually attempting to find who is behind it, and as a result, his growing anxiety becomes the narrative’s driving force.

The film takes advantage of the dispute between the WGA and the talent agencies to highlight how the agencies have lost their mystique. The agent was the new deity in the Michael Ovitz era, and packaging was the motto. The agent was still the master of the universe in the “Entourage” 2000s, but the snakiness was starting to devour its own tail. With the entertainment industry fragmenting, the era of high packaging is receding, leaving agents seeming more like cogs pretending to be more important than they are.

The narrative is well-crafted as well, with an attention-getting introduction that reveals the potential consequences of the anonymous invitations. Then, because of Jordan’s engagement and subsequent inquiry, viewers can have a better grasp of the mystery as it unfolds. When this mystery is overlooked in favor of a greater focus on Jordan and Caroline’s relationship, however, the continual satire on Hollywood ensures that The Beta Test is mainly enjoyable and consistently has more to say than your ordinary thriller.
