One of the gripping adaptation comes out from Walter Tevis’s classic novel published in 1983. The Queen’s Gambit starts Anya Taylor in the central role and all the story revolves around her.

What is the plot of the series The Queen’s Gambit? 

Set in the 1960s in the cold war era, the story of the orphaned chess prodigy Beth Harmon a nine-year girl who moved to an orphanage when her mother died in a car accident. 

She is quiet and follows all the strict rules of the orphanage. She introduced first to the drug tranquilizers like candy to become docile and control emotions.

The Chess comes into her life when she met with a resident janitor in her orphanage’s basement. She learns all the moves and the real game of queen’s gambit.

Her senses got sharper, her technique got clearer with time and she discovers natural talent in her. As a teen, she is on the way to turn her dreams into reality traveling across the world, and beating man twice her age. As she reaches the height of stardom she is battling with an addiction to alcohol and drugs. 

From the glimpse of the trailer, we depict that she imagined the large visuals of game chess on the ceiling of her dormitory when she took pills and got high. The trailer looks interesting and shows her addiction, obsession, trauma, and isolation grows more frightening with age.

What are the characters of the series? 

Anya Taylor-Joy as Beth Harmon stands out with her fabulous performance. She is looking dynamic and perfectly fits the character. She is an orphan and born with natural talent and discovers her talents when she introduced the game of chess and first became known for making appearances on the fantasy series Atlantis, and had her breakthrough with the period horror film The Witch. 

The supporting actors are terrific and Frank’s casts brilliant actors that made the series a huge success.

Moses Ingram is Jolene, who runs the orphanage of girls. She is the one who gives tranquilizer the drug to Beth to control her emotions. She is a newcomer in the Hollywood and won theater awards National Society of Arts and Letters in 2015

Bill Camp as Mr. Shaibel who is the janitor at Beth orphanage teaches the complexity of the game and discovers her natural talents and enhances her skills. He features in movies including Birdman, Vice, Joker, etc. 

Marielle Heller is Alma Wheatley who adopts Beth Hermon as a daughter. She shares a good bond with and become her support system. Her works recognized as the director in Hollywood like A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. 

Marcin Dorocinski is Vasily Borgov who is the World-champion chess player and Beth’s greatest rival. She is determined and waiting for the opportunity in her whole life to beat him in the game of chess. He appeared in many films including Pitbull, Manhunt, etc. 

Harry Melling as Harry Beltik who recognized Beth’s talents and pushes her limits to excel in her talents and skills. He appeared in the Harry Potter series as Dudley Dursley. 

Isla Johnston also seen in the first and second episodes of the Queen’s Gambit series as young Beth.
