Of the second episode, the stylistic highlight in the series, his presence is a tribute to Die Hard.

Turner and Hooch have no punch to be Michael Bay’s TV (though McG is doing everything it can to smash everything in the episode of the pilot), nor does the show claim to be a family sitcom. If Nix had re-created the film, then the legacy sequel could have worked better—nobody likes to have Tom Hanks replaced as a Tom Hanks character, but at least the program is directional.
