The platform makes sure to launch new and exciting updates for people to stay glued to the app.

The ‘DARK MODE’ a famous update has completely changed the outlook of the platform and is used by many. It makes the otherwise white and bright platform look more businessy and soothing!

UPDATES - DARK MODE

DARK MODE

Similar to the dark mode update a lot of updates have been introduced. Some of them have rolled out while some are in process. Below I will be sharing the details of those updates.

The list of updates are as follows-

  • EXPIRING MESSAGES
  • MULTI-DEVICE SUPPORT
  • STATUS VIDEO ROLL TO 15 SECONDS
  • DARK MODE PREFACE
  • SEARCHING MESSAGING ON WEB

1.EXPIRING MESSAGES

Apps like Snapchat or Instagram are close competitors of WhatsApp. Each of these apps tries to stay at power. The expiring messages feature is one such update that competes with Snapchat’s features. The uniqueness of Snapchat is it’s self-destructing messaging feature. Taking a queue from it, WhatsApp is also planning to roll this feature out in 2020.

What does this feature include?

This expiring feature will allow users to set a certain time limit in both groups as well as individual chats. Not only this they will also get an option to turn off the deleting messages feature. Alongside this, users will be able to retain the messages for hours even weeks. The update is still under process and development and would roll out soon!

2. MULTI-DEVICE SUPPORT

The multi-device support feature allows to access an app in multiple devices at a time. Telegram another networking app and a close rival of WhatsApp is already offering this feature since a really long time. To be at power WhatsApp is also working on this feature.

What does this feature include?

This feature will allow accessing WhatsApp on multiple devices at a single time. This will make the platform more accessible as opposed to the present time. Unfortunately, no official announcement for its launch has been made.

3. STATUS VIDEO ROLL TO 15 SECONDS

The app has reduced the status time limit. Earlier a user could share the video in status for 30 seconds which has now reduced to 15 seconds.

Why did this happen?

The prime reason for this reduction in time and the introduction of this update was the excessive use of the network. The telecom operators were facing a huge load on network infrastructure. In order to curb that this update was introduced. India is the country where this update has been specifically rolled out. Nevertheless, there are plans for rolling it back once the network becomes stable.

4. DARK MODE PREFACE

One of the most used updates that changed the entire outlook of the platform was the ‘DARK MODE’ feature. This feature no doubt has been one of the most demanding ones.

What is the benefit of this update?

This feature helps to minimize eye fatigue by using the colors which are within close range to the system defaults. This is a major reason why it’s so demanding as it is very soothing and less strenuous to the eyes.

How to enable it?

If you still haven’t enabled this feature then just follow this simple step to do so. Just go to the chats theme settings and select Dark option.

5. SEARCHING MESSAGING ON WEB

Along with networking a zillion messages are forwarded on WhatsApp every day. It is as if after news apps like TOI or Inshorts, WhatsApp is the next platform to know everything happening around you and the world. Unfortunately, the loose credibility of the forwarded messages is an issue and a lot of times people do send fake news.

To take control of this situation WhatsApp is working to test the search messages on web features.

What is the use of this feature?

This feature will help to test the credibility and authenticity of the forwarded messages. It will allow the users to check the reliability of the forwarded messages in WhatsApp itself.

Why is the feature so important?

Apart from the credibility issue, the feature gained a lot of significance, especially during the pandemic. The reason being a lot of false information was and is being circulated on the platform. Receiving fake or untrusted messages on such sensitive topics can be a serious issue. Understanding the severity of the situation the app decided to work on this feature.

The users would soon be able to check the credibility of each message with the help of the search button in front of the forwarded message.
