The new Bollywood black comedy drama ‘Darlings’ is the new talk of the town! Lead in the film, Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah were perfect choices! Here’s what we know about it
What is Darlings about?
The movie Darlings was produced under the banner of Red Chillies entertainment and Eternal Sunshine. Moreover, this was the debut of Alia Bhatt in production along with Gauri khan. The movie is available on Netflix from 5th August. It received quite a lot of praise for the plot and an amazing performance by the cast.
The story is about a housewife Badru (Alia Bhatt) who wants to quit her husband’s drinking. Hamza, Badru’s husband (Vijay Verma) is an addict, who abuses Badru every day and has anger issues. Badru and her mother Shamshu (Shefali Shah) decide to take revenge when Hamza crosses limits. The movie further discloses how they got rid of Hamza and reveals a big secret about Shamshu. With the help of Zulfi (Roshan Matthew) and Kasim (Rajesh Sharma).
The movie plot of Darlings is mixed. You can experience pain, suffering, tragedy and comedy all at the same time. It also talks about social issues like domestic violence, aggressive behaviour and male dominance. Moreover, Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah delivered their best!

Reviews for the new comedy-drama
As said earlier, Darlings is a mixture. The movie makes you feel many things. You are very much frustrated and angry because of Badru’s (Alia Bhatt) love and loyalty for her husband. But also you are devastated by the gruesome workplace of Hamza.
Although, that said there is no doubt that Hamza made himself into a monster. No amount of sympathy is left towards him in the end. Alia Bhatt on the other hand has done an excellent job and justice to her character. Her cries, her screams, and her bruises are enough to make a grown man cry. The movie is also about hope, Badru’s false hope that her husband for some reason, be it for a child, will stop drinking.
Shefali Shah or samshu does a brilliant job as Badru’s mother. She is like everyone’s mother. She knows about her daughter’s suffering and pain but is unable to advise her. But she is also supportive, brave and at crucial times she is with her daughter, backing her up.

Renuka Vyavahare of Times of India rated the film 3.5 out of 5 stars and wrote, ‘‘Darlings makes a compelling case study on domestic violence but it wouldn’t be what it is if it wasn’t for Shefali and Alia. Both actresses speak through their eyes and make up for the dreary pace at times with their outstanding performances and chemistry’’
Avinash Lohana of Pinkvilla rated the film 3.5 out of 5 stars and wrote “Darlings stays consistent even in the second half, and a few high points scattered periodically in the script keeps you hooked to the narrative. Watch it for the message and the performances”.
Actor Shah Rukh Khan, taking time from his busy schedule, indulged himself in the movie and tweeted about it.
The film is an all-rounder and an absolutely amazing performance by mom-to-be Alia and on-screen mother Shefali Shah. The Movie is available to watch on Netflix.
