The infamous Game of Thrones series, more popularly known as GOT has got a prequel. The GOT franchise now has a new addition that is House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones.
What is Game of Thrones about?
There might be less than a few people who haven’t watched GOT. But if you are one of those few then here’s in brief what Game of Thrones is about. GOT is an American fantasy drama television series which aired for 8 seasons. Starting from 2011 till 2019 the series was very famous among audiences of varied age groups. The series plot is in the name, that is it is about Throne wars. Kings of small and big kingdoms hail one true king of the seven kingdoms. The true king lives in the King’s Landing and controls all the seven kingdoms under him.
The cast of the series is extensive with hundreds of characters. The main reason for the popularity of GOT is due to its engaging storytelling capacity, expressive cast and some of the best graphic visuals. The main cast of Game of Thrones includes Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Ser Jaime Lannister), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark).
The series has a total of 8 seasons with 10 episodes from seasons 1-6, 7 episodes in season 7 and 6 episodes in season 6. Each episode count to almost 56 minutes and a few of them are of one hour. But if you don’t really want to watch this extensive series then don’t worry. House of the Dragon is a prequel to GOT and only needs basic knowledge of GOT. Let me get you started!
What do you need to know for House of the Dragon?
As said earlier GOT is about throne wars. In GOT the wars start because the throne is taken from the original heir. And the original heir of the Targaryen is Daenerys, after her father’s death. The story continues to unfold how Daenerys takes back her home…only to lose it. But that is another story and precisely the end episode of Game of Thrones. But why the name House of the Dragon?
Well, Targaryens were considered the strongest among all the families and were the ones who were ruling for a long period of time. And they were undefeatable because they possessed dragons! Real fire-breathing dragons. Hence you can imagine the name is House of the Dragon as the series is going to talk about the Targaryen house in this Game of Thrones prequel.
So as I said you don’t need to have extensive knowledge of GOT but there might be some minute references and easter eggs in House of the Dragon which will amuse the viewers. (On a side note if you love dragons and all fantasy creatures like them then you should not skip watching GOT, it is absolutely worth it). According to the data, the series is set about 200 years before the actual events of GOT and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.
The series premiered on 21st August and consists of 10 episodes. And more exciting news only five days from its release the series was renewed for another season on HBO max!
What is the cast of the series?
As House of the Dragon is not a continuation of Game of Thrones, the cast of this series is entirely different from GOT. We will see Paddy Considine as King Viserys I Targaryen. He is portrayed as a kind decent king chosen by the lords. Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, who is also called the Rogue Prince for his unexpected behaviour. Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen the daughter and only surviving child of King Viserys. And along with all these, we will see many interactions of dragons, cause well it is the House of the Dragon! Here’s the trailer for the series.
