Netflix dropped the documentary Blackpink: Light up the Sky on the meteoric rise of four South Korean girls Jennie, Jisoo, Rose and Lisa released on October 14, 2020.

The director who helmed Netflix hit Samin Nosrat’s cookbook “Salt Fat Acid Heat”, Caroline Suh brings a new Netflix documentary film of the world’s most popular groups. 

The movie was released just less than two weeks after the release of Blackpink’s first studio album. The Album has been described as “an endearing documentary that emphasizes each member’s individuality”.

The Blackpink is a group of four South Korean girls who worked with entertainment music production YG entertainment in 2010. They all four girls as bandmates and become the global sensation and got fame as one of the most popular K-pop groups in the world. They got stardom when their debut single Square One released in 2016.

Their debut singles “Whistle” and “Boombayah” reached Nos. 1 and 2 on the Billboard charts right after their debut in the summer of 2016. After that, they produced several hits that forced the audience to dance to their music. 

There are several collaborations with the likes of Dua Lipa (Kiss and Make Up), Lady Gaga (Sour Candy), and Selena Gomez (Ice Cream).

What is the plot of the film? 

The Netflix Original documentary film Blackpink: Light Up the Skydives into the journey of four young girls. How much sacrifice they paid off, experience with working with YG production. Caroline Suh also feature Blackpink historic 2019 performance at Coachella at the iconic US festival that made them popular worldwide. They became the first K-pop girl group to perform in the music festival and touch the heights of stardom.
