The charges against Empire actor Jussie Smollett of staging a racist and homophobic attack have been dropped.

The story of the attack has taken quite a few twist and turns since he first claimed he was set upon by two men.

This story started when Smollett make a report to Chicago police about two Nigerian brothers attacked him. According to Chicago police, say they are investigating a suspected racist and homophobic attack of Jussie by two masked men which happened at about 2am. It was reported that Smollett was punched in the face, a rope wrapped around his neck and was poured an unknown chemical substance.

The two Nigerian brothers Obabiujo and Abimbola were arrested and interviewed by the police, but not charged and not treated as suspects. They had worked as Empire extras, sometimes going to the gym with the actor, their lawyer says.

On the same day, Jussie had an interview with Good Morning America show. He suggests the alleged attackers were white, he asserted that “if I had said the attackers were Muslim, or a Mexican, or some black, I feel like the doubters would have supported me a lot much more.

Chicago police orders jussie to pay $130,000 to cover the cost of police officers, including overtime worked on the case. Officers say the time spent reviewing video and physical evidence could have been spent on other investigation.
